About

Get ready for the next event in the new and innovative Beerthoven Concert Series: Family Ties!

Beerthoven is proud to feature Mezzo Soprano Laura Mercado-Wright, member of the Grammy Award-winning choral ensemble Conspirare, in the uniquely intimate and down-to-earth setting of the upstairs room of Saengerrunde Hall. She will team up with Pianist Michael Schneider, hailed by critics as "a pianist with exceptional insight" and a "performer with great panache" in performances across the states and overseas to Poland and France. Joining them will be Violinist Christabel Lin, whose solo and chamber artistry has been displayed in performances throughout New Zealand, Austria, and the United States. This varied program will explore music by composers who were related to one another: Johann Sebastian and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, and Robert and Clara Schumann.

Come have a beer, munch on some snacks, chat with the artists during intermission, and listen to some world class music, all at one low admission price.

Student tickets are available at the door for $10! General and Member pricing will also be available at the door with a price increase of $5.

While beer will be served in a neighboring space, this event is family-friendly. Kids are welcome!

The Beerthoven Concert Series is a Sponsored Project of the Austin Creative Alliance. Beerthoven is made possible through the support of the Austin Saengerrunde and individual benefactors.

  • Name: Beerthoven Concert Series
  • The Beerthoven Concert Series is a down-to-earth, approachable celebration of classical song and chamber music; a quirky mixture of Oktoberfest and Bach Fest, often in unique and intimate settings. Beerthoven finds its inspiration from the musical and festive events at the Austin Saengerrunde as well as the private “salon” concerts of Beethoven’s own time. All Beerthoven events feature snacks, drinks, and live classical music, all included with admission. There is no backstage area here; audience members may even find themselves standing in line for beer with the performers.

Beerthoven began in 2014 as an auxiliary of the Austin Saengerrunde, combining the club's love of great German music and great German beer. Recently, Beerthoven has begun to broaden its reach in the community by joining the Austin Creative Alliance and attracting many fans from outside of the Saengerrunde. The Saengerrunde continues to serve as the primary venue and major sponsor of Beerthoven.

We seek to promote a greater spirit of community through the enjoyment of music. A special effort is made at Beerthoven events to make them free of unnecessary rules and formalities to which the audience must adhere. It is our hope that we might reach an audience that has or may develop an appreciation for classical music but would be unlikely to visit a traditional concert hall.

Beerthoven especially celebrates classical song and chamber music (for small ensembles of two or more). Programming is intentionally diverse in tone, instrumentation, and featured performers. Beerthoven supports local artists by offering fair compensation and a unique performance venue.
